WELCOME TO THE HENRY PIGOTT HOUSE PROJECT PAGE! We have been proud to partner with Cape Lookout National Seashore for the last few years to rehab and furnish Henry’s as an exhibit house. Visitors can walk through and see how Henry and his sisters Lizzie and Rachel lived. Some of the items in the house were Henry’s, and some are Portsmouth-related items donated by faithful members and friends. Henry’s is open during Homecomings and whenever NPS volunteers are in the village.
UPDATE: Hurricane Dorian did a lot of damage at Henry’s. Some outside maintenance has been done, but the tide water inside the house did a lot of damage to the furnishings and various exhibit items. Once our hired contractors finish the work they need to do we will be able to get in and get Henry’s cleaned up. Volunteers and Park maintenance crews did a great job of drying out what they could and boxing up items to store, but a lot of work remains to be done inside. The photos below show Henry’s before Hurricane Dorian.
As of this writing, March 2021, we are hopeful the contractors will soon have all Henry’s windows replaced from Hurricane Dorian damage. A lot of clean up work needs to be done inside when these windows are in.
